What Is Supplemental Security Income?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a program utilized by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to pay benefits to people with a financial need. These benefits are funded by general tax revenues and aid to provide cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.
